READING PARAPHERNALIA

Lights, chairs, tables & stuff

Okay, I freely admit it ... this page is a bit of a fantasy. But sometimes you've got to take a step back and say - what the heck. If I want to create the perfect reading environment, what do I need.

I tell you what - lights, chairs, tables and stuff...

LIGHT.jpg

THE BEST READING LIGHT EVER

Yeah, well … call me crazy, but if you’re reading a paper book (or actually even certain e-readers) you need a good light to prevent eye strain. We need something that provides a good, white light. Also, it must be height adjustable as well as easy to move around.
Plus – and this is a biggy – you need to be able to adjust the brightness of the actual light itself.
LED would also be a good thing as we don’t want those pesky bulbs going pop and having downtime on our reading!
You also need to consider looks as well as placement. Do you want to simply clip the light to the side of the desk? Maybe even clip it to your book – although I wouldn’t recommend this. It’s a mite intrusive and doesn’t give you a nice, all-encompassing mellow light.
For my money’s worth, I’d go floor standing with enough adjustment to make it tall or really short. Best of all worlds, as it were.
Okay – so what did I decide on after trying out a truck load of different lights?
We got a lamp that is a real 2-1. It can go on your desk as a table lamp, or double up and its an elegant floor standing light.
It’s dimmable with 4 different color temperatures and 5 dimming levels and a 60 minute timer, Happy days.
Also – energy saving LED, a super-bendy gooseneck so it can point anywhere, and it’s quite the looker as well.
It’s the - Tenergy LED Floor Lamp Desk Lamp, 2-in-1 Dimmable Task Lamp with 4 Color Temperatures, 5 Dimming Levels, 60-Min Timer, Flexible Gooseneck, Touch Control Floor Lamp for Reading/Crafting, 2000 Lumens. Hit the link to take a look – gets 5 start reviews and all.
What a great reading light!

THE BEST DESK IN THE WORLD

According to me...

When it comes to a reading and writing desk it starts to get really personal. I am sure that we all agree that it’s going to have to be of a standard height. That means its anything between 28 inches and 30 inches. And who are we to argue against that … heck, they (whoever they are) have taken centuries deciding things like that … so, one less thing to worry about.
After that – it needs some sort of storage space. Not loads, after all it’s not a filing cabinet. A few drawers, enough space to stack a few papers. Maybe an ornament, picture of the dog, that sort of thing.
Next – sturdy. I cannot stand working at a desk and the think keeps wobbling around. No way – enough to drive someone mental and worse.
Finally – it’s got to fit where you need it to fit. So, I suppose I haven’t been much help – but that’s not what this is all about. No, this is about the best desk in the world according to me. So – here’s a picture and hit the button of you’re feeling flush and want to but one.
Spoiler alert – this is not a cheap item – you may want to phone your accountant first!

THE BEST CHAIR IN THE WORLD

Trust me on this...

I have a confession – before we take a look at the best chairs ever – I have to admit to being … well … shall we say, STOUT and leave it at that.
Normal size office chairs cry out in anguish when the see me approaching. Mercy, we hear them call. But, on the whole, they are safe. Because I can’t even fit in them. Six foot four inches and over 300 pounds needs a man-sized chair that can take a real beating.
Plus, the fact that I am a writer so I tend to sit all day. (and much of the night as well). So we’re looking for hard wearing, super comfortable, good looking kit.
And let me tell you – that stuff doesn’t come cheap – no sir.
I wanted swivel. I wanted wheels. I wanted leather for the coffee spills.
Did I ask for too much?
As it turns out – no.
Take a look at the Perseus Heavy Duty from Big and Tall office chairs.
Adjustable ergonomic chair features that can encourage health and wellness in the workplace: tilt tension, chair tilt lock, seat height, back/lumbar height, seat depth, synchro-tilt, waterfall seat edge, contoured cushions, width adjust. arms.
It is guaranteed up to a 350-pound sitter and its leather.
Man – dare I say it?
The best chair in the world!
